If I am participating in SERVE 2008 what are the rules I need to know?
As a participant in SERVE, I realize my participation is a privilege with responsibilities. While SERVE is an enjoyable experience, it is a serious ministry where individual and group cooperation is needed.
Ya' might be breakin' the rules if...
- If you’re smokin and not on fire (no smoking allowed)
- If you’re high and not on top of a ladder (no non-prescription drugs)
- If you’re drivin and it’s not a herd of cows (no youth drivers)
- If you’re packin, and its not your suitcase (no knives, guns, or thermo-nuclear weapons)
- If you’re showin more skin than ya got clothin on (dress appropriately)
- If’in ya leave your group and it’s not in an ambulance (stay with your group)
- If’in you’re horseplayin and there ain’t no horses involved (respect church property)
- If ya be a fella and you find your self in the gal’s sleepin area
- If ya be a gal and find your self in the fella’s sleeping area
- If it’s after lights out and ya find yourself staring up at the stars and getting eaten by skitters (do not leave the building after hours)
The Covenant And Liability Waiver Signed On The Registration Form Includes:
- I agree to cheerfully and fully participate in all assignments and activities and to abide by the decisions and schedules set by the Youth Unlimited host team and adult sponsors.
- I fully understand that lack of respect for authority (including abusive language), violations of my site's smoking policies, or any failure to accept leadership rules and direction may result in me being sent home at my/my parent's/guardian's expense.
- I am representing my church youth group, Youth Unlimited SERVE, and Christ while on SERVE and will conduct myself appropriately at all times.
- Further, any use of alcohol, firearms, weapons, drugs (not prescribed by a physician) will automatically result in me being sent home at my parent's expense.
Anyone leaving a worksite must be in the company of a Youth Unlimited leader. All teens left at the site must also have a Youth Unlimited adult leader present.
Separate sleeping quarters are provided for girls and boys. No one is to go into the hallway or room of the opposite gender.
Teen participants are not allowed to drive a vehicle during serve.
Dress Code:
- One piece bathing suits, no Speedos, no short-shorts, no sports bras without a shirt.
- Footwear at job sites shall be closed-toed shoes - no sandals.
- Bare midriffs are not acceptable.
- Shirts with at least a short sleeve must be worn at all work sites by both sexes.
- Shirts should be appropriate for the ministry that we do. Shirts should not promote messages in conflict with the ministry or that is a hindrance to our ministry in the culture of the people we are serving e.g alcohol, drugs, violence.
- The Host Team has the final say in all dress code issues.
Noise generating devices such as personal walk-man, disc-man, radio, boom-box, or other audio devices may not be used during the project.
